Call for Papers
The Society for Caribbean Linguistics (SCL) will meet at The University of the West Indies (UWI) in Jamaica from 1 to 6 August 2016 (travel dates 1 & 6 August) for its 21st Biennial Conference. The Conference will be hosted by the UWI Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy, the Jamaican Language Unit (JLU) and the International Centre for Caribbean Language Research (ICCLR) under the theme "Caribbean Languages 2 di World: Caribbean Languages in a Globalized World". .
Caribbean languages include spoken and signed languages, Amerindian languages, creole languages, standardised, official and non-standardised language varieties, immigrant languages, heritage languages, endangered languages, and religious and ritual languages.
The conference organisers are encouraging in particular, panels in the following areas, with a view to early paper publication after the conference:
- Language and Law
- The Researcher/ Linguist as Public Intellectual
- Language and Education
- Language Rights
- Language and Music
- Language and Sexuality
- Bilingualism in All Its Manifestations
